So you want an inexpensive phone line with no contract. Great try vonage, that’s what I did. I got a $15 package for 500 minutes a month, thought I was saving money on the adapter since they said that would be free after rebate. Sounds good right. Well then they send me a small indiscreet email a few months in, they’re going to raise the price of my service another three dollars. By this point I realize I don’t really need this line and I’m actually very upset that they’re going to try and slip this little price hike by me to sneaky. So I think I know my rights, if a company changes you’re service, you have the right to cancel without any fees. I decide to call and cancel and fight my way out of this rate hike. Of course my call goes straight to India and I try to cancel my service explaining that I don’t want to accept the rate increase. They tell me I have to pay a cancellation fee. I tell them they can’t legally do that, and I have to tell them that several more times until they finally give in… YES I’ve won. Not so fast. They tell me that I can cancel my service without a cancellation fee but since it hasn’t been one full year of service, I have to repay them for the adapter that I got free because I used a rebate to get the money back. FUCK! I give up. I’ll wait a few more months so I don’t have to pay back the adapter and then I’ll cancel, maybe I’ll actually start using the phone line sometime before then.
And here is how my bill has changed, for a $15 advertised price, I started paying 19.03. Here is the month by month breakdown:
24.02? where the hell did that increase come from? Clearly there is nothing holding this company back from stealing from its customers. I never once went over my usage limits. I never went over 20 minutes in a month. There is no reason for the bill to change, yet the amount changes at least five times in 14 months.
Now it’s been a year. I still don’t use the phone line so it’s time to cancel.
I make the call back to India and request to cancel the line. After 5 minutes of me half understanding the customer service members pitch to keep me and how they can save me money, they say they will cancel my service. Great, quit telling me about it and just do it already. Well since I haven’t been with vonage for 2 years, I have to pay a $40 cancellation fee. And I thought they said no contracts. Where do all these fees keep coming from. I swear, I read the fine print when I sign up for services like this, I was fed up with the nickle and dime bullshit. Great. Take My Money. Oh and since we bill you in advance of the services you recieve, the 24 dollars-literally 24 when it started at 15- that we just processed on you credit card for next months service, that’s not being refunded, we’re keeping it and shutting off your phone today, screw you.
Vonage Sucks Ass
